Hot Cross Bun Hunt

Today we went on a hunt to find the hot cross bun that won “Best Hot Cross Bun in New Zealand”.  We cycled to the ferry terminal in central Auckland, where we met our friends who had cycled from the other side of town.  We took ourselves and our bikes on the ferry across the harbour to Devonport and then cycled a slightly tortuous route to the Daily Bread Bakery in Belmont.  We could smell it before we saw it. We had a bun and a coffee, bought a box of six to take home with us, then cycled a different route back to the ferry, which took us back across the harbour to Auckland, where we parted company with our friends and cycled home. They were delicious hot cross buns, baked by an Italian baker who has developed his own sourdough hot cross bun recipe.

I took a blip of the bakery staff rolling ham and cheese croissants. Unfortunately, there’s quite a lot of reflection, but I think you’ll get the picture.
