Swashbuckling fun.

The arts especially address the idea of aesthetic experience. An aesthetic experience is one in which your senses are operating at their peak; when you're present in the current moment; when you're resonating with the excitement of this thing that you're experiencing; when you are fully alive.

-- Ken Robinson

So back in February I wrote about how we were taking a group of our 8-10's Youth Theatre members to see a fantastic production, The Mark of Zorro, as part of our festival of work for children and young people during the Easter holidays.

Well, finally, today was that day!

The show was by Visible Fictions, a brilliant company based in Glasgow who specialise in work for young audiences, families and schools. It was a swashbuckling adventure with a set that was nothing short of genius with all its magical twists, turns and folds to help keep the story going at a pace.

Our young people loved it, this being most clear to me when one boy decided to gallop along in his seat in time with the cardboard cut out of a horse on stage! Well, why not?

Afterwards, the actors kindly spent a few minutes with us, answering curious questions about whether it is hard to play more than one part in the same show, where all the music and sound effects come from, and why the Baddie went straight from sleeping to getting married without having any breakfast first!?!! Well, erm, it's like this ...

Haha, magic!

So as that marks the end of the festival all the bunting will be coming down. I have to say, as pretty as it is, I'm quite glad. I mean, I find this blip of our Box Office area confusing. Anyone else? Images of children crying blood and psychopaths don't quite match up with the brightly coloured decor!

Oh well, until next April ...
