Snapshots of my world

Sowerby Bridge Wharf.

Happy Frikend to you all, that's Friday turning into the weekend as the day goes by!!

A beautiful sunshine filled day which I managed to enjoy on my evening stroll along the canal. Gorgeous! The canal between Copley and Sowerby Bridge has has a bit of spruce up complete with some new signs and information boards. They explain how Sowerby Bridge Wharf is where two waterways meet on the edge of the Pennines and that the Tuel Tunnel Lock is the deepest lock in Britain!

You also gain some historical information about how the wharf was a vital link in the chain of waterways stretching from the Humber to the Mersey. It was here that the cargo was transferred from the long Mersey flat boats to the shorter Yorkshire Keels because they were too big for the locks on the Calder and Hebble Navigation.

I never knew any of the above despite the area being so close to home.
