Pollen To Go

Only the queen and worker bumblebees collect pollen. They have handy little sacs or baskets on their hind legs that they use to transport the golden treasure back to the hive. These pollen sacs or baskets are known as corbicula. The pollen contains proteins and fats necessary to feed the developing larvae and the adult bees as well. The entire process of pollination is fascinating to me! If you'd like more info, please take a look at this website Accent On Natural Landscaping. It's a fantastic resource!
It's so sad to find bees lying dead and know that it's because someone sprayed their yard or flowering plants with poison. So when you garden, please keep the pollinators in mind!
