Park de Retiro

After the obligatory Sunday trip to El Rastro de Madrid,
the most popular open air flea market in Spain,
like all good Madrilenian families,
we went for a stroll in the Parque del Buen Retiro.
A magnificent park formerly owned by the Royal Family,
it is filled with beautiful sculptures and monuments, galleries,
a peaceful lake and host to a variety of events and performers.
This is the monument to Alfonso XII that overlooks the boating lake.
