Oak Leaf Yellow Picotee

After yesterday's busy day, it was good to spend some time in the garden today, where this new acquisition looked gorgeous in the spring sunshine.

We all prepared Ukrainian food for an early Mother's Day celebration, shifted forward by a week as this was the only time when we could all eat together. I made a large pot of Borscht to eat with Rye Sourdough, Alex and Pete made Beef Stroganoff (originally created in Odessa), Sarah and Ben made Potato Cakes and a cabbage dish (it was supposed to be stuffed cabbage but they ran out of time!) and Chris and Lizzy created Pancakes stuffed with Cream Cheese topped with a Cherry sauce.

We ate in the garden, as Lizzy had spent Friday evening with her Dad who tested positive for Covid on Saturday morning. Both she and Chris were still negative on Sunday, but we didn't want to take too many risks. Even though it ended up being rather chilly, we were well wrapped up with coats and blankets, and with candles on the table and a fire in the firepit, it was really very atmospheric. Instead of Mother's Day gifts, I asked the boys to donate to a charity of their choice to support those suffering in the Ukraine.
