Clark’s brown leather sandals

In the Museum there is an exhibition of hundreds of old Ladybird books and original illustrations from 1940 until the factory was closed in 2000. There are various props around the museum that the artists would have used. The most unusual item in the collection is a dolls’ pram from the early 1960s, lent for the exhibition by the little girl (real name Jean) who posed for the role of ‘Jane’ when Martin Aitchison was producing the original Peter and Jane books. I love these little brown leather Clark’s sandals. Hands up anyone who had a pair as a little child. I loved mine, especially when they were new and you opened the box and could smell the leather.
