Windmill Flowers

Spring is like a perhaps hand
(which comes carefully
out of Nowhere)arranging
a window,into which people look(while
people stare
arranging and changing placing
carefully there a strange
thing and a known thing here)and

changing everything carefully

spring is like a perhaps
Hand in a window
(carefully to
and fro moving New and
Old things,while
people stare carefully
moving a perhaps
fraction of flower here placing
an inch of air there)and

without breaking anything.

Spring is like a perhaps hand, by E.E. Cummings

It's been spring just long enough for everyone to forget how to drive in the snow. To be fair the roads were not so hot on the way in to work and I passed about a dozen cars off the road in various fields, ditches, and patches of woods. By the end of the day it was all melted except for various places in the woods that were thick enough with trees to provide shadow from the sunlight.

Despite this snow, spring is clearly advancing. Over the weekend purple finches returned to the feeder, and leaving the house I almost stepped on the green snake living under the steps. Walking in the campground Sunday night we heard frogs, and today my wife saw a snowshoe hare under the feeder with over half its coat changed back to brown.

Meanwhile that saw whet owl seems to have settled into the woods just behind the house and has been hoot hoot hooting each night starting about 8:00. I've never once been able to see it, but I know for sure its out there.
