Eyes

Today it started raining. Finally. Just a little bit! Enough to wet the ground, revive the vegetation and prepare the ground for heavier rain we are expecting on Friday. I cross my fingers and hope for more rain.

This jumping spider was not bothered by few drops of rain, he followed me with, well at least two eyes out of 8. Think about it, that this tiny spider has a tiny brain (<1mm) with wich it has to elaborate the information it gets from two forward facing eyes (with an incredible high resolution vision -relative to size), two eyes external to the primary eyes that only see in black and white and are used mainly to detect movement, and the two additional pairs of eyes on the sides that complete the spider's 360 degrees vision..and then send pulses to the legs so that it can jump to catch a pray..or to escape from a predator. Well done to nature to produce such an efficient little "computer"...or so I thought until I realized that the smallest manmade nanochips are about 2nm by now!
