Old forgotten words

Our grand daughter gave us this calendar of forgotten English for Christmas . Todays word was glycypicron meaning something sweet and bitter
Yesterdays was jiggs which was a sediment of a pot of coffee or a bottle of physic.
There was an attempt to outlaw coffee apparently as it was regarded as a dangerous drug. A petition was presented to parliament in 1673 saying that coffee and brandy should be prohibited as it interfered with the consumption of barley malt and wheat as they were products of this country.
Could you imagine the outcry today if they tried to ban coffee
