Saturday at the lake

Many local residents were down by the lake this morning, checking out the unusually high water level after recent heavy rain. Including this kayaker. Notice that he has a set of wheels on board. After his paddle, he simply walked his kayak down the main road to his home nearby.

The curvy reflected tree is a paperbark, Melaleuca quinquinervia

Long-time residents say they've never seen water level in the lake as high as it is now (see extra - the water in front of the children and their mothers is normally dry land - under the water are picnic tables and barbecues). The lake has no outlet. Even though it is only 100 m from the ocean there are no records of it ever breaking through the dune to flow into the ocean. We're all wondering how long the high water will persist.
