Nemesis (SilSApr2022)

Nemesis:
1. something that a person cannot conquer, achieve, etc.: The performance test proved to be my nemesis.
2. an opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome.

I saw a greater spotted woodpecker on the peanut feeder yesterday morning and set the camera up on the tripod late on hoping to get an image first thing today.  No luck with the GSW but this grey squirrel tree rat decided to hog the light.  Early in spring and summer mornings the light shines through the trees in the rail cutting and can be very attractive. Our feeders are ~90% squirrel proof but that does not stop them trying and while they are around the small birds they are meant for have to wait.

Further measures may be needed.

They can't climb past the half dome baffle above the feeder so they have taken to jumping onto the perching rings from this point on the tree it hangs from , which is just about possible for them.  A longer bracket might be my next effort.

Silly enough for Silly Saturday?  Thanks to David C for hosting.

In the extra, the great tits are continuing to take an interest in the new nest boxes,  just not when I have the camera pointed in the right direction!

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes on my blip yesterday,  I do seem to be slowly recovering, aside from the sore throat.  Gill, sadly, has woman flu ... rather like man flu but genuinely debilitating.
