Burlamacco bubbles

Our holiday this morning started with a nice hotel breakfast, and a walk to explore Viareggio that started in a shower and ended in a downpour. We returned to our hotel soaked and defeated. A shower and a change of clothes later we were ready to try again, and headed out for a very good pizza lunch on the sea front.

The sun came out during lunch and we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the town. It’s a lovely place with lots of beach and swimming pools, gelato bars and restaurants. At the end of the town is a ginormous harbour filled with lots of super yachts. No oligarchs in sight though!!

This bubble man was entertaining the crowds neat out hotel. Watching over him is a statue of Burlamacco, the official mascot of the Viareggio carnival since 1931. I’m seeing images of him everywhere.
