Why did the chickens cross the road?

It seems it is to get to its mate on the other side! I live at the top of this hill and these hens belong to the big house at the bottom, just to the left of the picture. I've never met the occupants, nor have many others, I'm told they only come out at night! Unlike their hens who are out here most days!
Despite being just below zero for most of my walk it didn't feel that cold, possibly because there was almost no wind. It was quiet and peaceful with empty space for reflection on all the good things in my life. I really need to make time to walk this everyday. It was about 5 miles and my knees objected to the walk back up the hill at the end, but there's no avoiding that! Good for the heart rate!
