Archers' Hall

Since completion in 1777 the Royal Company of Archers has been based at Archers' Hall on Buccleuch Street.

Formed in 1676 as a private archery club (and  remains so) the company received its royal charter in 1704 and in 1822 were appointed The Sovereign's Bodyguard in Scotland, hence the title The Royal Company of Archers.

Now Category A listed  the facilities for archery practice remain. Although their role is now largely ceremonial, their distinctive green uniform and feathered cap may be seen in attendance at royal events, for example, at the official opening of the Queensferry Crossing.
