‘A Victorian Wall Postbox’

Up early this morning and put on my running gear to go to my GP practice in the West End. Decided to walk up through the Dean Village and run back home, via a circuitous route down the Water of Leith and around Inverleith Park.

On my way through the Dean Village light rain had started, and this rather nice, and freshly repainted, Victorian Wall Postbox stood out from the surrounding stonework in the gloom.

At the bottom of the box, there is a much painted over and barely legible manufacturer’s inscription which reads - I think- ‘Smith & Hawkes, Eagle Foundry Broad St Birmingham’. It’s probably around 150 years old.
