Lamb Number 1

Today it was Eleanor’s turn to lead a group, as the final part of her GIrlguiding walking assessment. She’d planned to lead us over the Great Ridge, but the forecast was 30-35mph winds with gusts of up to 50mph. So we quickly composed a new route card for a plan b, lower route with a plan c shortening. Plan d was ditch it and go direct to the pub.

Sadly it was decided that it wasn’t safe for Eleanor’s daughter to come. She has Downs Syndrome and is partially sighted with no depth awareness which makes descending very difficult for her. So we were an adult only group and, in the end, the wind was nowhere near as strong as forecast, so we reverted to plan a and went along the ridge from Mam Tor to Lose Hill. We got soaked but we were soon drying off in the Cheshire Cheese Inn and at least the assessment walk was done.

I did feel very sorry for the lambs who’s coats were nowhere near as thick as their mothers’. It’s a tough start to life for them.
