Primrose delight

Despite the cold wet weather, this year has been brilliant for Primroses in our area. They seem to have spread everywhere along the lanes, under the hedgerows and carpeting the patches of woodland.

As a small girl, I was taken "primrosing" with an elderly relative on a farm just off the Quantocks in Somerset. The bunches were tied up with wool and placed in a basket to be given to my invalid grandmother, or perhaps for the church at Easter.
Years later the same relative used to send primroses boxed with damp paper through the post, a wonderful reminder in the middle of London of those early days on the farm!

Now people are discouraged from picking wild flowers in order to conserve them in their habitats. Long may they continue to grow!
