South Coast Scribblings

This is one of the interesting adverts in the guide booklet to the Festival of Britain 1951.  My Dad, aged 26, used to travel up there regularly to audit the books from the two restaurants that his boss was responsible for at the festival.  It’s interesting to see the old advertisement from a time when gas was considered good for the environment!  And presumably was proportionately a lot cheaper than it is now, which wouldn’t be hard…

I have found a pair of nice curtains in a cupboard here that don’t seem to fit anywhere, but are brand new.  I have cut them off to make curtains for the bathroom as it is a small window and ready-made ones aren’t possible to get.  I don’t own a sewing machine (and can’t use one) so it’s all got to be done by hand.  I managed the pinning and tacking of one today, but the hard work of sewing neatly has yet to be started.  I also think that there will be enough material left over to make one small curtain for the very small cloakroom window, which has the same old thin curtains as the bathroom.  It’s lovely because the material will match both rooms really well.
