Working artist

What do artists do when they have an exhibition? Most disappear back to their studios but a few, like Christine McIver  (whom I blipped earlier) take the opportunity to work in the gallery.

It’s a two way process because it offers people the opportunity to meet and discuss the exhibition with the artist who created it. Also many people have never met a living artist, let alone chat to one about  their work.

Yet surprisingly few take up this opportunity preferring instead to leave it to the gallery owner or her assistant to explain the work.

This was brought home to me again this afternoon when I was able to spend time with Christine and listen to her explanation of her working processes behind her prints, collages and paintings but also her thinking.

Exhibition: “ Looking at Lilies”- Christine McIver, Dunblane Museum-until end of April.
