Hillsborough

24th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster today and the first one since publication of the HIP Report. It was timely, then, that this piece, by Liverpool sculptor Tom Murphy, was unveiled yesterday. It's a powerful piece that is strong on symbolism as you walk around it. It was also interesting to watch people's reactions to it. There wasn't a lot of talking going on - just respect. The first thing I saw as I walked up was a guy wearing an Everton shirt with his head bowed, deep in thought. This sculpture has that effect on you. Tom Murphy has done a magnificent job.
