Bottle Chapel

This little "chapel" with hundreds of bottles embedded in it is located at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington.  It's a memorial to Minnie Evans, an African American artist who worked at the Gardens when it was a private residence and then when it became a public garden.  She worked with many types of media and was inspired by "visions and dreams" she had throughout her life.  Here is a sampling of some of her art work.  Some go at auction for pretty high prices. I love the intricacy of them and she never took an art class, dropped out of formal education at 13.

The gardens were lovely too - lots to see and on the water (Extra). I'll definitely go back again.  There are summer concerts and lots of events throughout the year, even yoga during summer months.
