Branding Bannockburn

There is much work going on to create the new Bannockburn Heritage Centre which will open next year, the 700th anniversary of the battle. The new building is taking shape and the statue of Robert the Bruce is under wraps as it is being cleaned. A new "brand identity" has also been created and it is displayed along the roadside next to the site. Each letter in the logo is meant to represent an important part of the Bannockburn story. For example the first 'B' indicates the closed ranks of spears used by the Scots, the 'O' is the mace a weapon used by soldiers on horseback, the second 'B' is the rampant lion and the 'R' represents the plan of battle. the letter 'N' depicts the Declaration of Arbroath, created in 1320 and which declares Scotland an independent country.
