(105) One Extreme to the Other

In 2003 a landscape regeneration project began at the former site of the St.Ninian opencast mine, between Kelty and Dunfermline, in Fife. The landscape artist Charles Jencks was commissioned by the mine owners, Scottish Resources Group, to develop a landform proposal to regenerate the area but when the company went bust the project was left unfinished. The site is still worth a visit though the trip to the top of the hill along a spiral path is much quicker on a bike than walking! The first extra shows a view from one of the three mounds at the top of the hill with various pieces of heavy machinery from the mine arranged as part of the landscape. The second extra is a gratuitous bike shot with the Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge behind.
