Cyness Our Funeral Oration for the Human Race

Cyness ' Our Funeral Oration for the Human Race' (Yellow Dog Records, 2005)

It was a welcome surprise to see a familiar blonde dreadlocked dervish behind the kit when Cyness took to the boards in Bannerman's supporting Weekend Nachos a couple of years back. Carsten of Battle Royale fame blasted relentlessly that evening and Finch, Jason, Andy and I were delighted to see him.

Carsten is one of the few people, outside of the Scottish scene, who liked In Decades Decline. IDD had played at Studio 24 with Battle Royale in 2004 and Carsten remembered both Finchy and I when The Process toured the UK with the Battlers in 2006. We were both taken aback that a plainly awesome musician, with years of touring and playing experience, remembered so clearly a band he had played with only once and that he had bought the album and listened to it on many occasions. Finch and I were well chuffed.

Battle Royale and The Process became firm friends on our tour and Stefan, Tom and Carsten have all shown me great hospitality every time I have visited Berlin since. Carsten even wanted me to join his power violence band suggesting that I travel to Berlin a couple of times a year to practice and record. That would have been amazing, but we never got round to it. Hmmm, perhaps I should get back to him about that?

Cyness looked exactly like they sounded; crusty punks playing raging grindcore with hints of metal sensibilities. This record doesn't entirely do their live set justice as it is an old recording and doesn't feature Carsten on drums, but it's still a cracking example of Euro DIY grind.

This is number 73 of an issue of 100 tour LPs on red wax. Very nice it is too.

Peace
