Garganey

You may or may not be impressed with this capture. I was honestly as it had come up on my Twitter feed and I did a few thousand steps to find it with no bins and when I did the sun was low, bright and he was back lit. He probably only takes up a couple of pixels in the entire shot.

A male Garganey at Ripple this afternoon. Amber status in UK conservation the RSPB say that breeding birds arrive in March  and return to Africa between July and October. Scarce and secretive slightly bigger than a teal it is easily recognised by the white stripe or eyebrow. I was thrilled to see it and even then it was so very far away. A first for me though.
