True Love

I always assumed that wing fluttering birds being fed were babies. But when I saw this pair in my tree today, they both appeared to be adults. I have seen this a lot in the garden recently, all looking too mature to be babies.

So I looked it up and apparently the female does this as part of the mating ritual. There is a theory that it is a test of the male's ability to forage and provide for the young. I think this one has passed the test.

Not so sure about his home building technique though. He flew out of the nest, dragging much of the  bright new wallpaper with him. He then tried to stuff it all back in.

Other exciting sight of the day was the, now regular visitors, the goldfinches.
