Gosford House, East Lothian

Gosford House isn't open to the public all the time so we grabbed the chance to go when it was this Weekend.  This stately home was built in 1790 by the 7th Earl of Wemyss to plans by Robert Adam.  Apparently, the Earl didn't intend to use it as his home, it was to impress his peers and house his art.  In 1891 the 10th Earl added the most ostentatious marble entrance hall to the south wing which rises to three storeys with a double staircase and cupola.  After the house tour we had a good walk around the 500 acres of grounds where you can see stables, a pond, ice house, boat house, curling house and a mausoleum.
