Steam Clean

Long before the first passengers arrive at the steam railway much has to be done to get the rolling stock and station ready for the day's work.

The platform volunteers clean and tidy the station and carriages and test the signals and points, whilst the train crew arrive very early to fire up the engine and run through the safety procedures.

It is usually the trainee fireman's job to fill the tender with coal and then make sure the engine is spic and span. This is the engine Waggoner just prior to leaving the shed to couple up to the carriages which are waiting at the platform. All this before the first cup of tea!
