(111) A View from the Top of the World

So, maybe not quite the top of the world, more like Block 108/Row K at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, but I'll settle for that. This is a phone camera snap from the Dream Theatre gig that I knew nothing about until Mrs.Rockit said "there's a band playing along the road tonight, have you heard of them?" A quick check online confirmed that Newcastle was one of only three UK venues on the current DT tour so a ticket was duly purchased and off I went. Tesseract were a very good support act but DT really take things to a different level in terms of technical proficiency and musical ability.

Extra shots are from the morning's bike ride round various parts of Newcastle and Gateshead. The wooden pier is Dunston Staiths which first opened in 1893 as a structure for loading coal from the North Durham coalfield onto ships. The Staiths were used up until the 1970s but with the decline in the coal industry the structure fell into disuse. It has suffered fire damage in recent years and there is now no access but plans do exist to restore the structure. Dunston Staiths is apparently one of the largest timber structures in Europe and yet it's taken me until today to notice it!
