Making the most of it

The weather gods aren’t being kind to us. Ana, our Airbnb host, is doing her best (being really attentive, in fact) and is in touch a lot with recommendations for things to do indoors, some of which we listen to. Generally, though, we prefer to do our own thing and make it up as we go along, which is what we did today.

Two things at the top of our list were to use the funicular to go between river level and the heights when most things happen and to take a ride on one of the old trams that Porto is famous for. Unfortunately, the funicular seems to be closed right now, so a tram trip became our main focus today.

We jumped on a number 18, expecting to have to switch to a number 1 to get to Foz and took it to Foz, a seaside area which is the end of the line. The place itself was no great shakes when it’s wet and windy, but we did a bit of a wander anyway before hopping back on for the return trip. We stopped on the way to take in the Tramcar Museum and then got on and off again to sample a little restaurant Ana had recommended. It’s a great spot!

We got a taxi home and were delighted to see that a taverna just a few doors down from our apartment had its door open. Hallelujah! Beers were consumed.
