My Life in Pictures

17 Great Stuart Street, Edinburgh

Former house occupied in the 1830's by prominent Scottish architect William Henry Playfair FRSE (1790 – 1857) who designed the Eastern, or Third, New Town and many of Edinburgh's neoclassical landmarks (eg National Monument, Royal Scottish Academy, National Galleries of Scotland, Donaldsons College etc).  Ironically, this is not a building of his own design, but is by his rival James Gillespie Graham.
