Audley End

Beautiful day today at Audley End where we were given an excellent guided tour by an old university friend who volunteers there. A handsome Jacobean House with an interesting ‘cloud hedge’ separating the house from the service area - seemingly it ended up oddly shaped following the weight of a heavy snowfall and has since been kept like that.  I was interested in the houses secret use as the headquarters of the Polish Section of the Special Operations Executive during WW2 training soldiers who volunteered for the underground movement before being dropped by parachute into their occupied homeland
Back to Paul and Caroline’s beautiful home for  tea and the most marvellous apple cake
