The view from Flanders

Just across the border

This is the Villa Cavrois in Croix, a modernist house built by French architect Robert Mallet-Stevens for Paul Cavrois, an industrialist from Roubaix. It's ginormous: 1840 m² of habitable space and 830 m² of terraces. It took 40.000 litres of oil per year to heat. Today that would cost you € 50.000. By far the largest house we ever visited. This is a must see if you are into architecture (and even if you are not). You just keep wondering at the opulence and the lifestyle.
