Common Enchantments

Water lilies

A road trip today to the low country of South Carolina to Bonneau Ferry Preserve.    It is mostly a big wooded area with a few ponds but also home to rremains of  Comingtee, a 1700's house and rice mill.    Near the Cooper River there plantation grew rice and shipped it to Charleston which is not too far downriver.     These water lilies were all over one of the ponds we drove by.

In the extras is a photo of the remains of the rice mill at the river, a glossy ibis, a turtle family that made me smile and the resident alligator.

I love being in the forest and by the water.   The problem is the low country is swamping and there are ticks, snakes (we saw only one!) and resident gators everywhere.   Unless you go to the paved path places which  never gives my heart a jump like seeing an alligator sunning on a sand bar.
