Compost worms
A long time ago 59 and I went to a worm farming day and we bought some compost worms to start our own worm farms. These are some of their descendants. I have always kept them in a compost heap in the garden and once had such a pile of rich, black castings that Dad scooped some up with the bucket of his front end loader to use round the fruit trees. They were good fertiliser - the trees went from pale to rich green. Now I find it difficult to keep the vermin and weeds out of the heap so I have bought a plastic worm farm to keep on the verandah. We will see how they go. Managing extremes of temperature might be the biggest challenge.
