Wide Wednesday - People

The strong women of Zihuatanejo are the people featured in this mural. Woman have played a huge part of the history of our town, in fact many claim Zihua means "place of women" in the native Nahuatl language. Woman have, for many years, controlled large swaths of the town's real estate and a large number of family matriarchs run successful businesses. I should really know who these women are, but they must be important to be immortalized on the side of a building. I had intended to take this photograph many times while riding to town, but it seemed there was always a vehicle parked in my way. Today, the street in front was clear of cars and a sure sign I needed to finally capture this image.
