Coppice with Ransoms

This evening's trail run took us on a circuit from Felsham along field paths and through the ancient Bradfield Woods. Once owned by the Abbey at Bury St Edmunds, the woods have been managed by coppicing since the mid thirteenth century and are now being maintained by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust. Numerous rare species have been recorded there but the section in the photo seems to be dominated by wild garlic.

The weather was forecast as being unsettled & there was a heavy downpour just after we entered the woods. We did shelter for a short time; the photo was taken just afterwards with still dripping hands & glasses, on a phone which seemed to have a mind of its own - I haven't dared scrutinise the result on a larger screen! We've been able to change since we arrived home - our springer is still confined to the kitchen as he's not dry yet.
