Travel nto the past

And then, just after the column with Jupiter and the 5 historic milestones, there was the largest artificial hill worldwide, created by surface mining. The Via Belgica is here permanently interrupted. We had to cycle around it.

More and more villages are on the way. In the meantime we alternated the increasingly busier Roman main street with a quiet parallel road. That's probably how it was for the traveler 2000 years ago.
Finally we arrived in the busy streets of Cologne. People from everywhere arrived at the frontier of the Roman Empire, the Limes, the Rhine. We walked next to our bicycles towards the end of our journey, where the Forum once stood. Not meant symbolically, but because our overnight stay is close by.

In the evenings we mingled with the crowds, visited some sites and strolled along the river Rhine.
