Chewing the wood

Heard the noise of a wasp chewing the wood on our old garden bench this morning. Wasps eat wood to form pulp which they use to make their nests. The process of chewing the wood is apparently called girdling. I don’t really mind, just as long as it doesn’t take the whole bench, and as long as the nest is not on my premises!
