Eye of newt

Usually when I try to get a blip of one of our newts they disappear from view but today they seemed to be completely ignorant of my presence. It may have been because it was quite cloudy and I wasn't therefore casting a shadow. I don't know, but I was able to get quite a few shots as they played in the pond.

I think we have at least three of them, possibly more. The newt in the bottom photograph seems to have a distended abdomen. Google suggests it might be a female carrying eggs. Perhaps we will have more! I have to say I am pretty ignorant about the lives of our amphibian friends but I guess it's enough that we provide free board and lodging, never mind obstetrics and gynaecology.
