Handkerchief Tree

Although the weather was better yesterday we braved the wind and went down to the Botanics this morning, where the azaleas and rhododendrons are at their peak.

No time tonight, I'll add a collage later but I was struck by the display of the handkerchief tree, Davidia involucrata, which is at its best. There are two specimens close to each other but of different varieties, this being the type, the other is var vilmoriniana. They come from different areas of China, the former from the south west, the latter central and western regions.
