Needham's Skimmer

First thing this morning we went to Mullet Hole and Crystal Rivers Archeological Site. There wasn't a huge amount of avian activity but quite a few dragons were flitting around near ground level.

This is a female Needham's Skimmer which can grow to about 51mm and seem to be quite common over here.

We did stake out an osprey nest, gave up after quite a time and my famous last words were, 'It will rock up on the nest as soon as we get in the car - you know that's the way it works.' And it did though I immediately jumped out and got a few shots of him flying in with a stick to help with the nest decor. Bigger stick in Extra.
