Shelter

Today's forecast was Rain so we decided we needed to go somewhere where we could be largely indoors. Inverary Castle fit the bill nicely. Home to the Dukes of Argyll for centuries (and apparently Downton Abbey) we had an interesting drive up past Loch Lomond with the mountains hidden in cloud and Berry had a terrific bounce in the grounds. Some lovely interiors (largely untouched Georgian, my favourite), history told from the viewpoint of Covenanters and a subsequent execution, through to Royalist supporters during the Jacobite rebellion, the expansion of the British Empire in India and D-Day excercises on Loch Fyne. I didn't 'do' history after the age of 14 but visiting such places is much more informative.

The place is constructed using a slightly green granite. Have to say, not my favourite but there you go; it's certainly stood the test of time despite a couple of devastating fires!

Extra is in because I had to smile at these intrepid souls, determined to picnic whatever the weather!
