A Trip to Edinburgh

We've been trying for some time to arrange to take my Dad to Edinburgh for a day trip, to see his cousin Alastair who has lived there for a long time but whom he's not seen for over 20 years. One of our aims when we took Dad there last July was to include this, but the plans didn't work out that time. Alastair and my Dad are the only two still in the land of the living of an original total of 18 cousins (they're both in their 90s now).

Anyway, today proved to be an excellent day for the trip there and back. The weather was perfect and our journeys were straightforward other than a little hiccup on our route into Edinburgh (when Google maps was unaware that the roads round Holyrood Park were closed to traffic today and it insisted on constantly trying to get us to drive along them!).

We had a lovely leisurely lunch together and were also joined by Son#1 and his wife (who currently live there too, but not for much longer).

There wasn't much time for blipping, but here's a photo of a rather unusual clock on the wall of the cafe we stopped at on our way north this morning. And I couldn't resist taking a photo of the old advertising poster on a wall at the restaurant where we ate (see the extra) - extolling the amazing qualities of Ovaltine! I suspect it wouldn't meet current stringent advertising standards. (Apologies for my reflection on it - it was behind glass in a frame and I couldn't avoid it.)
