Together

Many of the paperbackpages are now loosely slipping away after decades of use, so loved are some of the recipes. My Mum-in-law still uses it, as she has done for every birthday/wedding/special occasion cake she’s made for friends and family over the years, and every ‘LittleA birthday cake’ made by Lady Sp33d too. It’s dog-eared, scribbled on and well used, the way good recipe books should be.

Today we put another extortionately priced 15 litres worth of unleaded in our car to get us along the motorway and back so we could see the twinnytwins, our niece and nephew, for their 13th birthdays. And yes, the cake was lovely.

Later we brought the birthdaygirl and her younger sister back to ours for a sleepover (what I used to just simply call ‘stopping the night’ when I was young). We made a chilli whilst they played ball in the garden and ‘Curby’ on the street, made up the loft-bedroom, listened to some Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the kitchen and then caught some Eurovision (our ears did bleed somewhat, but it made us smile and the positivity and togetherness on show was a very welcome thing to see right now).
