Interesting - But Worrying?

Noticed yesterday that there was gum oozing from this wild cherry at the far end of the garden but the harsh sunlight & shadows ruled out trying to photograph it. The dull light this morning was more appropriate. Apparently wild cherries - in fact, most cherries - release gum if injured & that helps to seal the wound. Not sure why it should have been injured in that position, but it can be due to bacterial or fungal infections, so fingers crossed the tree will contain it & survive.

It's also reported that the gum can be chewed, but I don't think I'll be experimenting with that!
