Historic day

Today the very first rhododendrons were planted in the specially prepared new rhododendron garden bed at Old Government House. It has been my goal over the last 2 years to get the soil specially prepared, to make it more acidic, ready for the establishment of a rhododendron collection at OGH.

Around 40 years ago, a plan was made to use this area for rhododendrons and azaleas, but for various reaons it was never implemented. Now is is becoming a reality. I will post photos in the future showing progress. We have many more plants, both donated and propagated by us, waiting to be planted.

The magpie appears to be giving it his tick of approval.
