The River Wharfe at Wetherby

After our morning dog walk we decided to take a trip out to Wetherby today as it was such a lovely day.  I packed up a flask and some sandwiches and off we went. It was very busy and the car park was pretty full down by the river but we got a spot in the shade. Then decided to go up into the town and call at the Wetherby whaler for some chips to go with our ham sandwiches. Tanzy has not had much interaction with people for over 2 years and so this was her initiation, she was really good, a bit nervous at first but she settled down and we were really pleased with her. (the chips were a bit rubbishy and at £2.60 were definitely not worth it). After eating we went for another walk woodland this time then coming back went down by the river to where all the ducks etc gather to be fed, the river was running very fast in the middle. We indulged in a 99, they've gone up in price a lot. £3.50 for an ice cream cornet with a flake, you can tell I don't eat out much can't you. lol

We are really please with Tanzy, except she still goes mad with dogs so that has to be worked on, yet again.

If you think ham sandwiches and chips sounds funny there is a tail behind that. Some years back we were out walking and it came on to rain really heavy and set in for the day. we decided to cut our walk short and head back to the train in Hebden Bridge. Coming through Heptenstall we saw a fish and chip shop with a garden and tables. so we decided a few hot chips would be in order as we were cold and wet through, and we sat in the pouring rain in this garden eating ham sandwiches stuffed with hot  chips. It's now something we often do, not in the rain though, but if we have ham sandwiches I make some chips to go with them. Then we reminisce.

The River Wharfe:- Flows for 65 miles before joining the River Ouse. Its source is in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales National Park – where Oughtershaw Beck and Green Field Beck meet in Langstrothdale. From there it is joined by many small streams emerging from the sink holes of the neighbouring limestone moors. It flows through Kettlewell and Grassington, over Linton Falls, through the Strid at Bolton Abbey then on past Ilkley to Otley, Wetherby, Boston Spa and Tadcaster, passing on through Kirby Wharfe, Ulleskelf, Ryther and meeting the Ouse just beyond Cawood. some journey.

We were all tired out by the time we got home, dogs had their dinner and Molly has slept ever since. We did chat with a lady who had a little old grey dog who was 16 years old bless him. Walks slow but life in the old dog yet.
