No mow ?

This is meant to be "No Mow May" during which people are encouraged to let their grass grow in order to provide as the website puts it "a boost to wildlife".

It does work, because for some years we haven't cut what we used to call our back field, which is where Cathleen now has her polytunnel, or rather we have only  cut a few paths (as opposed to the whole thing) and let the rest develop a mix of wildflowers and grass which not only looks good as the summer progresses, but saves a lot of time and attracts pollinators and lots of other visitors.

I did only the second cut today, but the emerging effect can already be seen.  Primroses have been particularly quick in colonising the area but there are other things coming through now, including (alas) some marsh grass which is very prevalent here about.
